Meeting Dates and Filing Deadlines - 2026
Meeting recordings will be available on WestfordCAT (Westfordcat Government) two to three days after the meeting date.
Purpose
The Conservation Commission is the Town body responsible for protecting Westford's natural resources. It is also responsible for the administration of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and Westford's Wetlands Bylaw.
Mission Statement
The Commission's chief responsibilities are administering the State Wetlands Protection Act and local non-zoning wetlands bylaw, which primarily entails review of projects proposed to take place within 100 feet of wetlands to protect the important benefits and resource values provided by wetlands, and acquiring and managing land for the protection of the natural resources and watersheds of the town. The Commission has over 2,100 acres of town owned land in its care and custody, and is also responsible for overseeing compliance with 67 permanent Conservation Restrictions on over 1,700 acres of land. The Commission also has responsibility for overseeing the management of the facilities at East Boston Camps and the Hill Orchard.
The Commission has 1 full-time staff person, Matthew Salem, Conservation/Resource Planner. If you have any questions regarding the Commission's work, please call 978-692-5524.
The Conservation Commission would like to remind anyone who has an open Order of Conditions that they need to file for a Certificate of Compliance once the project has been completed. Failure to receive a Certificate of Compliance and to properly file it at the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds could lead to delays in real estate transactions regarding the property in question.
Getting outside to enjoy the outdoors on Westford's trails is healthy for the body and mind. Please remember to keep your dog on a leash and follow the CDC Guidelines.
PLEASE:
- Dogs must be controlled at all times by an adult (this means on a leash).
- Check for deer ticks often while visiting, and again after you get home; yes, they’re out.
- Please help out (and also set a good example) by bringing a trash bag and gloves and picking up trash (and also taking away)… every little bit helps!
- And please take note of the number of vehicles parked at the conservation area you plan to visit, since this will give you an idea of the number of current visitors. If a lot of vehicles are present, please choose another property or time to visit.
Thank you
