2011
- Installed 36.96 kWdc roof top solar array at Stony Brook Middle School producing ongoing carbon and dollar savings. Analytics may be found here
2013
- Designated a Green Community and started to apply to the associated grant program to implement energy conservation measures and savings
- Entered into 20 year Net metering agreements for a large percentage of municipal electricity, thereby defraying the costs of municipal energy and purchasing 100% renewable solar for that portion of municipal usage
2015
- Joined the Community Choice Aggregation Program
- Established the Westford Power Options Plan, or Westford Pop for short, to protect consumers from energy price variability while also providing residents and small businesses with the opportunity to purchase 100% renewable electricity
2019
- Converted town street lights to shielded LED fixtures and town ownership. Set to dim 50%.
- Installed 24 grant funded public level 2 charging stations, 8 in each of the following parking lots: Town Hall, Abbot School and Westford Academy
2020
- Adopted A RESOLUTION TO PROMOTE CLEAN ENERGY AND REDUCE FOSSIL FUEL USE TO ACHIEVE THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS’ LIMIT OF NET-ZERO GREENHOUSE GAS EMMISIONS BY 2050 Special Town Meeting October 17, 2020.
- Added a sustainability goal to Town Manager's Goals
- Completed the first Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Plan
2021
- Restructured, enlarged and renamed the Energy Committee the Clean Energy and Sustainability Committee (CEASC)
- Established an EV charging stations working Group
- Completed Hazard Mitigation Plan
2022
- Developed a Green House Gas Inventory
- Drafted Version 1.0 of the Westford Climate Roadmap
- Adopted Westford Sustainable Building Guidelines for Municipal Buildings
- Added a part time grant funded Sustainability Coordinator
- Designed a Net Zero municipal building
- Began a relationship with an Energy Services Company to audit all municipal buildings for energy cost savings measures and potential for renewable generation
- Acquired our first 2 fully electric municipal vehicles: a Ford E transit van for the school department and a Chevy Bolt for the Assessor's department.
- Introduced a Sustainability Web Page
- Westford Public Schools adopted Sustainability as a strategic goal ensuring sustainability goals are included in the annual school improvement plans throughout the District.
2023
- Select Board Endorsed version 2 of the Westford Climate Roadmap 2023
- Established a full time Sustainability Coordinator Position
- Released the Westford Tree and Invasive Species Plan
- Approved 2 Fully electric municipal vehicles: a Ford E transit van for the water department and a Chevy Bolt for the Facilities Department, partially funded with Mass EVIP grant funds totaling $15,000
- Hosted Westford Academy interns who completed trash pick ups around town and invasive plant removals at the Library and Pine Grove Cemetery
