Mission Statement


The mission of the Parks & Recreation Department is to ensure the smooth, efficient operation, management and administration of the overall workings of the department's three divisions: Parks and Grounds, Recreation Programs and Services, and Cemetery Operations. 

The mission of the Recreation Enterprise 

is to provide experiences that enhance the quality of life for residents in and around the Westford area.
To that end, the Parks & Recreation Department offers high quality, safe programs and services, designed to meet the year round interests of the community.
The programs and services are provided in a cost-effective, affordable, and inclusive manner.

The mission of the Parks and Grounds Department is to provide park and grounds maintenance services that are appropriate, cost-effective, and of the highest quality. The employees work to preserve and enhance Westford's active and passive recreation areas, municipal grounds, monuments, playgrounds, beaches, skate park, sand volleyball court, tennis and basketball courts.

Westford Partnership for Children (WPC)  


Parks & Recreation's After School Enrichment Program

Since 2004, Westford Partnership for Children has provided the community with a safe, stimulating, and fun environment for Westford’s school children during after school hours. WPC’s experienced staff fosters meaningful relationships with each student, while focusing on three critical concepts: safety, positive youth development, and academic enrichment and support. 

Parks & Rec's WPC program for grades K-8 runs Monday-Friday from school dismissal to 5:45 p.m. at the following seven schools: Abbot, Crisafulli, Day, Miller, Nabnasset, Robinson, and Stony Brook Middle School.

 Parks & Recreation provides support for parents and children with full-day and full-week special programs during Westford Public School’s parent conferences, professional development days, and February and April school vacations. Special program events are educational, inspiring, and fun, and include a variety of locations and activities such as Maple Sugaring at Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary in Sharon; APEX Entertainment Center in Marlborough; Museum of Natural History, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA.; SEE Science Center in Manchester, NH; Salem Witch Museum, and more!

* February and April Vacation Special Programs are available for grades K-8. Enrollment is open to children from Westford, as well as to children from Westford's surrounding communities.

Westford Parks & Recreation Summer Weekly Programs


Parks & Recreation Summer Weekly programs for children are packed with activities designed for each program’s mission and age group. Led by the Site Directors who run our popular afterschool enrichment program (WPC), these lively, full-week programs are staffed with energetic counselors – high school and college aged – who are First Aid and CPR certified. Choose up to ten weeks of full day and full week programming, with early arrival and extended day options.

Our summer '22 offerings will include:

Summer Beach Party at Destination Exploration, East Boston Camps  Learn more>
Program coverage during the first and last few weeks of summer, dependent on the Westford Public School calendar. For ages 4-13, Monday-Friday.

Kids Club at the Nabnasset School  Learn more>
Fast-Paced, fun-filled activities, both inside and outdoors, for children at all levels. For ages 4-13, Monday-Friday.

Destination Exploration at East Boston Camps

Classic summertime activities in a classic summertime setting

Beaches, Swimming, and more with Westford Parks & Rec


The 2021 summer season for Edwards Beach and Forge Pond Beach has concluded.
Playgrounds remain open.


Beach hours and fees for the 2021 season:

Hours: Monday-Sunday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Fee: Westford Residents are free, but must have proof of residency.
Nonresidents are $5 per person, per day. (Charge includes access to the
Forge Beach Playground and the Ronan McElligott playground at Edwards Beach.)
Nonresidents may purchase a season pass at the beaches for $75 for a family of five.
Three and under, and 65 and over are free.

Bathrooms are available at Edwards Beach and Forge Pond Beach during the summer season only.

Edwards Beach and Forge Pond Beach are community resources to be enjoyed by the public year round from dawn to dusk. During the off-season, please help us keep these facilities clean by following a Carry-in/carry-out trash protocol. We appreciate your help!


Winter Clean Up Reminder for Westford Cemeteries 

  
Please remember that artificial flowers, wreaths, sprays, and potted decorations are only permitted from December 1st through April 1st. Baskets or other containers, not of a permanent nature, must be removed by the owners if they choose to preserve them, otherwise they will be removed. One flower bed is allowed on each monument lot and cannot extend more than 12" from the base of the monument.
