Heart Pond in Chelmsford and Westford will be chemically treated with a USEPA/MA registered aquatic herbicide targeting the control of invasive aquatic vegetation on Thursday, May 11th, 2023.    The pond will be closed to swimming, boating, and fishing until Friday, May 12th, 2023. Additional restrictions include a one-day restriction on livestock/domestic animal consumption, a three-day restriction on using pond water for drinking/cooking, and irrigation of turf/landscape ornamentals, and a five-day restriction on using pond water to irrigate food crops/production ornamentals/newly seeded turf.  Temporary signs that warn of the applicable water use restrictions will be posted around the pond shoreline in advance of treatment.  The work is being performed for the Town of Chelmsford, under contract with Water & Wetland, LLC and pursuant to Orders of Conditions issued by Chelmsford and Westford Conservation Commissions and License to Apply Chemicals Permit from MA DEP.
