Massachusetts recently declared Stage 2 (significant) drought for the northeast region of the state - which includes Westford, and no significant precipitation is expected in the near future. Accordingly, mandatory outdoor water use restrictions are effective Friday June 24 and until further notice. At this time, we require our public water customers to follow the odd/even watering schedule as follows:
Odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered days between the hours of 6:00 pm and 9:00 am.
Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days between the hours of 6:00 pm and 9:00 am.
Failure to comply with the mandatory restrictions identified under Stage II is subject to a fine of $50 for the first violation and $100 for each subsequent violation. Each day of violation shall constitute a separate offense.
The odd/even schedule allows us to keep up with customer demand by spreading out water usage. Watering between 6:00 pm and 9:00 am when evapotranspiration is at the lowest level makes watering more effective and reduces waste.
