May 12th Launch of Emergency Broadband Benefit.
On May 12, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will launch its new Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program to help families and households who are struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic. The program offers two types of discounts to help low-income households connect to the internet and applies to new, prior, and existing customers of participating vendors.
Starting May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to enroll in the Program to receive a monthly discount off the cost of broadband service from an approved internet service provider. The EBB includes a one-time discount on a connected device if purchased through their internet provider. Eligibility also expands to students who received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year.
