Flushing of water mains is usually conducted every spring and fall (April and October) and continues for approximately 6 weeks between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Flushing hydrants is important because it removes sediment buildup in the pipes and helps to optimize our water quality. It also helps us conduct routine inspection of hydrants for fire protection. During periods when the department is flushing, water pressure may be low and the water slightly discolored. If you have discolored water during this time, let the water run awhile and it should clear up quickly. In addition, we appreciate everyone who helps to keep the hydrants shoveled out during the winter months.
