LTC Application Interviews are conducted by appointment only. Appointments will be scheduled every other Wednesday between 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., and 4:30-8:45 p.m., and occasional Saturdays. Please call 978-692-2161 or email to schedule an appointment.
What to Bring to Appointment
Prior to your scheduled appointment, please print an application (PDF). Bring completed, signed application along with a valid ID, and cash or check, we do not accept credit cards. Be thorough and truthful when completing your application, false or omitted answers are grounds for denial. If denied you will not be refunded, and will need to re-apply and pay fees again. Be on time, if you miss your appointment you will need to reschedule. Due to certain unforeseen situation, we may need to cancel appointments. While we will make every attempt to notify you, that is not always possible.
Processing time is approximately 90 days from initial appointment. To check the status of an LTC Application which has already been processed by the Police Department, call DCJIS at 617-660-4722 during the normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sale / Transfer / Inheritance / Loss of Firearm
Massachusetts General Law c. 140, §§128A and 128B, requires all individuals who sell, transfer, inherit, or lose a firearm to report the sale, transfer, inheritance, or loss of the firearms to the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services Firearms Records Bureau. Submit a report online.
