The 4 Cemetery Commissioners are appointed by the Town Manager.

The Cemetery Commissioners are responsible for the policies as they relate to the Town's 6 cemeteries. The Cemetery Supervisor is a full-time employee of the Parks, Recreation, and Cemetery Department. For Cemetery related questions please contact Danielle LeBlanc, Cemetery Assistant at 978-399-2350

Mission Statement

The mission of the Cemetery Department is to operate, maintain, and preserve Westford's 6 public cemeteries:
  • Fairview
  • Hillside
  • Pine Grove
  • Pioneer Burial Ground
  • Westlawn
  • Wright
Our goal is to ensure services are appropriate, cost-effective, and of the highest quality while providing a clean, safe, and serene environment for all.

Programs & Services

The Cemetery Department, with 1 full time employee, provides preservation and support for the Town's Cemeteries including:
  • Arranging for interments
  • Assisting the general public and visitors
  • Grounds keeping including:
    • Caring for turf
    • Flower beds
    • Mowing
    • Roadways
    • Trees
    • Walls
  • Preserving and protecting grave markers
  • Readying grounds for Memorial Day and Veterans Day events
  • Showing and selling burial lots
The Cemetery Supervisor and Department Assistant work with funeral directors, families, relatives, a Veteran's Agent, and contractors in coordination of burials, sale of lots, and genealogical research.

Winter Clean Up Reminder

Please remember that artificial flowers, wreaths, sprays, and potted decorations are only permitted from December 1st through April 1st.  Baskets or other containers, not of a permanent nature, must be removed by the owners if they choose to preserve them, otherwise they will be removed. One flower bed is allowed on each monument lot and cannot extend more than 12" from the base of the monument.

New Procedure/Policy

Flags on Veterans Graves - Effective November 2010: Flags on Veterans graves will be retired after Veterans Day and replaced prior to Memorial Day. The Veteran Marker/Flag holder will remain on the grave site. Veterans Organizations will be removing flags the during the week after Veterans Day.
