This project involves the replacement of the existing 1.5” galvanized steel (Jonas) and 2” galvanized steel (Emerson) water main with 8” ductile iron, and is slated to start in the fall of 2019. Identified in our Master Plan as an area requiring improvement, this project took on extra urgency after discovery of the deteriorated condition of galvanized main in the area last summer, and will improve area water quality and system resiliency.
This project is entirely funded through the Water Department Enterprise Fund.
Monday 10/7: All the main on Emerson Road has been installed.
Wednesday 10/16: All the main on Jonas Road has been installed.
Friday 10/18: New main on Emerson Road will be connected to existing main on Jo Jo Lane.
Thursday 10/24:Install water system interconnection with the Chelmsford Water District (please see note below).
Please be advised that you may experience a brief interruption to your water service on Thursday, October 24, 2019 between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, while the Water Department installs a new water system interconnection with the Chelmsford Water District.
During this work, there will be periods of low water pressure, no pressure, discoloration, or loss of water. Once water service has been restored, it is suggested that an outside spigot or the cold water tub faucet be run for a few minutes to remove discoloration from your service line. If you encounter extended periods of time without water or prolonged periods of discoloration, please contact the Water Department at (978) 692-5529.
