TRAFFIC ADVISORIES
- On Sunday May 6th between the hours of 1:45 and 5pm, expect road closures and delays along Depot St, Main St, Forge Village Rd, Cold Spring Rd, Patten Rd, Concord Rd/Rte 225, Hildreth St and Flagg Rd during the Westford Road Race.
- Expect Delays on Graniteville Rd. from Cold Spring to N. Main as well as part of Bridge St. due to Waterline work. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday May 14th and will last anywhere from 3 to 4 months, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.(ish). Commuters are advised to SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTES. Delays and Detours are to be expected.

SCAM ALERT:
Westford and area towns have been investigating incidents of companies going door to door soliciting to pave, repair, or sealcoat driveways. Asphalt scams rob people of their hard earned money each and every year. A traveling asphalt paving crew may notice your driveway and offer you a low-priced opportunity to revitalize it. The employees use intimidating sales tactics and deception targeting elderly people. But a little bit of caution and common sense can help prevent serious problems.
1. Beware of crews who approach you in your yard. These crews often promise low estimates because of leftover materials from a completed job a few houses away or on a nearby highway project. They may offer a guarantee but often the quality of the material used and application is inferior and you may soon have weeds growing through the new asphalt. Unfortunately, the paving crew is long gone by the time you discover you have a problem. It may cost you more to redo the driveway after the fresh look washes away with the next rain shower.
2. Ask for a written contract. Beware of individuals who offer to do the work without a written contract. Without a written contract, the original low estimate may grow to hundreds or even thousands of dollars once the work is completed.
3. Cash payments are a red flag. If the crew insists on cash payments, that's another tip-off. If checks are accepted at all, they are cashed immediately at the nearest bank.
4. Ask for references. Don't do business with anyone who won't provide references. Ask up front for references and check them thoroughly.
5. Have the work done on your schedule. Resist contractors who insist the work be done immediately. Take time to get bids from established local paving companies to compare prices. Take the crew's written estimate and tell them you will get back to them.
6. Ask to see their permit. A transient merchant’s permit is issued by the Police Department. The permit process has the salesman and their business checked out by the Police Department. It gives them a set of rules to follow in order to solicit business from Westford Residents.
7. Driveway Permit. A driveway permit issued buy the building department is also required to do the work. A good contractor should know this and not try and do the work without one.
The ability to hit and run is the key to a successful asphalt paving scam.~ Crews usually wander from one county or community to another offering a driveway sealing service.
It is up to consumers to protect themselves from scam artists. If you are eager to have the work done, insist that it be on your terms.
All paving companies working in Westford are advised that they are not to conduct business in this town without obtaining the proper permits. If contact is made with any parties suspected of being involved in paving scams immediately contact the Westford Police Department at (978) 692-2161.
SOLICITOR INFORMATION:
In Westford ALL Solicitors must register at the Police Department prior to going door to door for the purposes of making sales and/or promoting their business. If these individuals are legitimate they will be issued a Westford Solicitors Permit and a photo ID card. If a solicitor comes to your door, ask to see their Police issued ID prior to conducting any business with them. If they do not have one, call us at 978-692-2161. If possible, provide us with their description and that of any vehicle they may be using.

The SafetyNet™ service provides law enforcement with the tools and training to more effectively find and rescue individuals who could or are prone to wandering and becoming lost. It also helps caregivers provide an added layer of protection for loved ones with cognitive conditions from the life-threatening behavior of wandering.~ The service will be used to supplement traditional search and rescue operations conducted by local police and fire departments.
CHILD CAR SEAT PROGRAM OFFERED BY THE WESTFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The Westford Police Department has two certified car seat technicians available by appointment to inspect and/or install your child safety seat.  FINGER PRINTING OFFERED TO WESTFORD RESIDENTS:The Westford Police Department offers fingerprinting to town residents for security clearance and employment purposes on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm, and on Saturday mornings from 9am to 11am. Residents must provide proof of ID. There is no charge for this service. It is recommended that you call the department prior to coming in to ensure that someone is available. NOTE: Local Law Enforcement Agencies are not authorized to fingerprint for Immigration and Customs Enforcement purposes. For information on obtaining fingerprints for this purpose click here.
