IMPORTANT INSURANCE NOTIFICATION
The Town of Westford has decided to renew their health insurance coverage through MIIA Blue Cross & Blue Shield for the 11/1/2007 – 10/31/2008 plan year.
MIIA provided a new quote yesterday matching Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s 10.4% increase.
The Town will continue to go out to bid in the future to provide the best coverage at the lowest cost.
We know this was a difficult process but aggressively pursuing competitive bids resulted in more favorable rates saving the Town and employees money.
All health insurance informational meetings are cancelled.
Medicare Eligible Health Insurance
Harvard Pilgrim Heath Care ~ First Seniority Freedom Plan
1/1/xx to 12/31/xx
This plan does not replace MEDEX. It is an additional Medicare option that is
being made available to you though the Town of Westford.
First Seniority Freedom Plan is a Private Fee-for-Service Medicare Advantage Plan that gives you the freedom to choose your own doctors and specialists without referrals. This means that you may go to any doctor or hospital anywhere in the country that is Medicare-approved and willing to provide care and accepts Harvard Pilgrim’s terms of payment.
The plan features comprehensive benefits, coverage for routine check-ups, Medicare prescription drug coverage, worldwide emergency coverage and many other benefits. Members must be enrolled to Medicare Part A (hospital), enrolled in Medicare Part B (medical) and continue to pay Part B premiums if not otherwise paid for under Medicaid or another third party.
Enclosed is a Medex / First Seniority Freedom comparison summary. It is essential that anyone considering this plan carefully compare the two plans and understand the prescription drug coverage. If you have prescriptions/medications that fall in Tier 2 or Tier 3 it could result in higher out of pocket costs.
It is also essential that you ask your health care providers:
· Are they a Medicare-approved provider?
· Do they accept Medicare Private Fee-for-Service (PPFS) plans?
Enrollment for this plan is October & November of each year with an effective date of January 1st.
