To Whom It May Concern:
Please be advised that as a part of the Board of Health’s weekly beach water quality testing for Ecoli (as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health whenever the beach is considered “open for swimming” between Memorial Day and Labor Day), all the beaches located at East Boston Camps on Burgess Pond have been CLOSED to swimming until further notice. Unacceptable bacteria (Ecoli) levels were discovered this morning at which time steps were taken to immediately close the beaches (the beaches in question have already been posted CLOSED and re-sampled, the results of which will be available from the laboratory by tomorrow afternoon). Additionally, the Town web site has been posted with this “Closure Notice”. No swimming is allowed to occur again until acceptable laboratory results
confirm lack of Ecoli contamination. Should the results continue to remain unacceptable, the beaches will stay closed and will again be re-sampled. We will update the Town web site when they reopen.
Should you or your family be experiencing negative health effects you believe may be linked to the ingestion of pond water containing elevated levels of Ecoli, please contact your primary care physician.
