A Plan for the Development of Recreation Facilities in Westford
In April of 2002, a volunteer committee was formed to develop a Recreation Master Plan for Westford. This committee is made up of interested citizens and staff from the Westford Recreation Department. The group meets monthly and the meetings are open to the public. If you are interested in joining this committee, attending a meeting, or in helping in any way, please contact Julia Lavely (Master Plan Subcommittee Chair and Recreation Commissioner), Sarah Ledder (Recreation Commissioner) or Pat Savage (Director).

The Three Main Tasks
1.) Assess the current recreation facilities in Westford
2.) Do a ”Needs Analysis” via a town-wide survey and prioritize future requirements
3.) Develop a 3 - 5 year plan
After the first two steps have been completed, a supply/demand analysis will get underway. This is the key element of the multi-year master plan. The plan will also include financing proposals and options. It is expected that a large portion of the new facilities and programs will need to be privately funded. The goal is to have a plan ready to present at the Spring 2003 Town Meeting in order to gain awareness and support. Information and review of the plan will take place at other forums prior to the Town Meeting. The master plan may contain proposals for exciting new facilities in Westford such as an indoor ice skating arena, indoor swimming pool, basketball facilities, lacrosse/soccer fields, and improvements to existing fields and playgrounds.
Current Status of the Plan
Current Facilities Assessment - In analyzing the current facilities and programs, the group has reviewed all the current town resources, facilities, and programs. They have also reviewed the current population characteristics in the town. This process is nearly complete.
Town-Wide Survey will be distributed in early September with the Fall 2002 Recreation Brochure. The Survey can also be found on this site by clicking on Department Info and scrolling down to Westford Parks And Recreation Survey. Input from all the citizens of Westford is key to developing a plan that accurately reflects the needs and desires of our town. Please complete this survey and make your voice heard!
